Economic cooperation among African countries remains one of the major items on the agenda for the development of Africa and the sovereignty of its people. Consequently, problems of regional cooperation and regional integration have always been one of the top areas of CODESRIA's research activities. This book, « ECONOMIC COOPERATION AND INTEGRATION IN AFRICA », is a product of some of CODESRIA's activities in this field. It consists of papers presented at a conference convened by CODESRIA in Kinshasa, Zaire. The book starts with a discussion of general problems of economic cooperation and integration. This is then followed by an examination by several contributors of the impact of external forces on regional economic integration. The third part takes up some concrete examples of attempts at regional economic cooperation. In the final section, the editor takes a critical look at the future of economic cooperation in Africa.
